Kigonya departs Sofapaka

first_imgKigonya has been at Sofapaka since 2016 (file photo)NAIROBI – Uganda goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya has reportedly parted ways with Kenyan Premier League side, Sofapaka FC.The former Bright Stars custodian has been with Batoto Ba Mungu from June 2016, when he joined the side during some serious financial challenges.“I can confirm that I have left Sofapaka, said kigonya.“I sat down with club management and we agreed that it was time to part ways.“I do not want to talk about reasons for terminating my contract but all I can say is, it was due to personal reasons.“I am now a free agent and ready to move to another KPL team.”Kigonya was Sofapaka’s first-choice keeper since his move to the club in 2016 from Ugandan side, Bright Stars.He was appointed their captain in June 2018 when Hillary Echesa retired from football, and scored four league goals during his time with the club, all of which came from the penalty spot.Kigonya was part of the KPL All-Stars team that traveled to Spain for exhibition matches against Cordoba and Sevilla Atlético in 2017.He is capped five times for the Uganda Cranes and it now remains to be seen where he moves to next.Comments Tags: bright starsMathias KigonyaSofapaka FClast_img read more
