During his post-game press conference, Kelly said that “coaching had nothing to do with the outcome today,” and instead pointed to a lack of “fun, enjoyment, and energy” on the part of the players. Here is Kelly’s full press conference. On the role of coaching, specifically on the defensive side, in the loss to the Blue Devils:“Actually that’s probably the one area that I feel better about today. We did what I wanted today in terms of coaching, and coaching had nothing to do with the outcome today. I was pleased from that perspective.”On multiple occasion, Kelly mentions that no player’s job is safe, and then says that he wants players who bring passion to the field. The only one who did today, he said, was sophomore running back Dexter Williams, who had 24 rushing yards and a score on five carries.“There’s no fun, there’s no enjoyment, there’s no energy. We’ve got to look for the guys that want to have fun and play this game with passion and energy and that’s where we got to go.”It sounds like Notre Dame fans can probably expect changes to be made after this third loss in four games. However, based on Brian Kelly’s presser, they’ll likely be on the depth chart, and not the coaching staff. That is not going to make the fans who’ve been calling for Brian VanGorder’s job since Week 1, starting petitions for him to be fired, and chanting “fire VanGorder” during the end of today’s game.Notre Dame will look to rebound against Syracuse at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey next Saturday.[CoachingSearch.com]last_img
